Situated in Cockle Bay next to the Sydney Aquarium, Helm Bar’s first class location on the harbours edge has a large alfresco area with spectacular harbour views and exhilarating sunsets. Our friendly staff look forward to making your next visit a memorable one.
Helm Bar is newly renovated and is the perfect place for your work drinks or corporate functions, intimate cocktail parties or large social events and also bookings for dining both lunch and dinner. At Helm Bar we can cater for most occasions.
We have an array of tasty cocktails and mouth watering canapés to choose from as well as a new sophisticated but casual dining menu.

Booking your Function
We can accommodate functions of many varying sizes, from twenty to four hundred. All bookings will incur a minimum spend which depends largely on the day of the function and the amount of people attending the function. On Friday and Saturday nights we only accept ONE booking of fifty people or more.
No booking will be complete and confirmed until 50% of your minimum spend has been paid. All bookings cancelled within two weeks of the functions date will incur a complete loss of the venue fee.
It is compulsory to order food for every function.
All guests must be on premise within half an hour of the booked time or the area will be reduced.
Function areas must be reserved before 7.30 pm Saturday through Thursday and 7 pm on Fridays.
If you have any special requests for your functions please ask as certain aspects may be negotiable.
Location of Functions
Our function areas are situated outside on our large terrace area generally in the south end, undercover, so as to maximise the views from Helm Bar of the Harbour. The area will be reserved and barriers in place to section off the area. There will be tables and some seating provided, however our functions are predominantly standing.
Bar Tabs
A credit card must be given to management at the start of your function. The bar tab must be paid in full at the completion of the function by the card holder. We will supply you with identity bands or stamps to be allocated to each of your guests to give them access to your bar tab. You are able to arrange which drinks you wish to be available on the tab and what your credit limit is to be. Helm Bar does not provide tray service, all drinks on the tab must be ordered at the bar.
Terms and Conditions
Booking Confirmation
A venue fee will be requested to secure your booking area. A booking is only confirmed upon receipt of this signed booking form including credit card details and your deposit has been paid. The deposit is non-refundable if you cancel your function within two weeks of your booked function. Any tentative booking that is not confirmed within two working days will be released at our discretion. Confirmation of final numbers is required
Function area
All guests must arrive within half an hour of the booked time. Although signage and bollards remain up for the four hours of your event, management reserves the right to reduce/minimize the size of your area at their discretion.
Decorations
Any decorations must be approved prior to the function by the function manager. However, no items are to be attached to the walls, doors, windows or any other surface of the premises. Management and Security reserve the right to remove any inappropriate material which will be returned to you at the completion of your function.
Payment
All function accounts are to be settled in full at the close of the function unless prior arrangements have been made with management.
Dress code
Smart /casual - No shorts or thongs. Management reserves the right to refuse entry when it deems necessary.
Unacceptable Behaviour
Management of Helm reserve the right to refuse and exclude entry to any person deemed undesirable or intoxicated. Helm is committed to responsible service of alcohol. It is a requirement of law that intoxicated guests be removed from licensed premises.
All guests must be over the age of eighteen years old after 6pm Monday through Sunday. All patrons must be able to produce legal forms of identification when asked. Management, staff and security reserve the right to ask for ID and any unacceptable forms of identification will result in the patron being asked to leave the premises immediately.
Food and Beverage
Confirmation and food selections must be made a minimum of two week in advance of your booking. Function food maybe served until 8.45 pm.
Helm is fully licensed therefore no food or beverage of any kind is permitted to be brought onto our premises. The exception to this is birthday cakes that can be delivered prior to the event when arranged with the function manager.
Insurance/Damage
Helm will take responsible care, but will not accept responsibility for damages or loss of any item before, during or after function. You are financially responsible for any loss or damage sustained to the premises or our property during a function or by your guests when entering or leaving the premises.
Cancellations
All cancellations must be made two week prior to the event in writing. Less than two weeks notice will incur a complete loss of the venue fee.
